What is National Art Honor Society?
The NAHS program is designed to inspire and recognize students who have shown outstanding abilities in art. NAHS strives to support members in their goal of attaining the highest standards in art areas, and to bring visual arts education to the attention of the school and community through volunteer service.
What are the benefits of being a member?
Students gain peer recognition, leadership growth opportunities, college and career preparation, and an unmatched sense of camaraderie. Membership includes opportunities for publication in NAHS News. Scholarship and award opportunities are also available. You will become a member of a distinguished group of over 46,000 art students! Higher education institutions view the NAHS as a mark of accomplishment. In addition, three year members that fulfill eligibility requirements will receive a colored cord their senior year! Two year members will receive a colored tassel!
Eligibility Requirements
Membership is based upon art scholarship, service, and character. To become a member a student must:
- have completed Art Foundations,
- be enrolled in at least one LHS art course each year,
- have achieved a cumulative average of 3.5 (90%) in all subjects.
Once enrolled members are required to:
- complete 15 hours of art related volunteer activities by the last Friday in February.
- 5 of those hours are served from the Tier One List of organizations approved by the NHS. Additional information and guidance will be provided in our google classroom. Ms. Riehl has contacted the organizations and we already have opportunities waiting!
- attend the Introduction meeting at the beginning of the year and the Induction Ceremony at the end of the school year.
If you are in NHS, NAHS will look very familiar...but with ART! YAY!
